Video Production 101 (crash course)

This is a 6-day, intensive workshop designed for high school age or early University or College students. We have no minimum skill requirement for this course.

The workshop runs from Monday to Saturday. Course times are Monday to Friday, 9AM to 7PM, and Saturday 7.30AM to 12 NOON. A BBQ lunch to wrap up the week is held on Saturday after class.

• Discussions about the industry & student’s individual goals
• Cameras – different formats, and what formats are used where
• Camera equipment
• Lighting and lighting equipment
• Shooting techniques and shooting for the editor
• Working with a crew
• Audio recording
• Story construction and delivery
• Presentation or On-Camera techniques
• Different platforms to ‘broadcast’ material
• Camera angles, visual narrative, colour temperature and the ‘line’
• Lenses, light, depth of field, contrast
• Hand-held camerawork
• Electrical distribution and health and safety

Attendance for this course is limited to 7-10 students; each student will have their own equipment package to work with. This consists of one HDV/DV camera, lens, batteries, tripod, and basic audio package. We will be experimenting with differing lighting packages and also using ‘available’ light with various manipulating techniques, so lighting kits will be one or two per class.

This workshop leans toward a documentary style course, and safety is our number one priority, so it is important that each student come to ‘work’ wearing work boots (no sneakers), cargo pants or work pants a long sleeve collared shirt (prepare to get it dirty), with a floppy wide brim fishing style hat. This is an OH&S requirement.

COST: $2,500.00 per workshop - includes all equipment, does not include food & bev other than BBQ.
