Production Audio with ‘SOUND DEVICES’

This is a 5-day, hands-on, intensive workshop designed for experienced location sound recordists who have not had the opportunity to learn the Sound Devices system, and who may need to learn the ‘next level’ in production audio as far as time code, being a stand alone operator, MS stereo etc.

The workshop runs from Monday to Friday. Course times are 7.30AM to 5PM.

SOME OF THE SUBJECTS WE COVER

• Discussions about the industry & student’s individual goals
• Overview of the equipment – 442 Stereo Mixer & 744T Digital Recorder & the 418 MS Stereo shotgun Microphone
• Time code slates & other time code issues
• Being a ‘Audio Producer’
• Radio Microphones – at least 4 of them now!
• Working with camera people
• Being the ‘master’
• Why production audio is vital to ‘telling the story’
• After the director calls ‘wrap’
• Digitising and FTP your files and making DVD’s
• Why you need to charge more and fight for an Audio PA
• Different camera formats and why this matters. Or does it?
• Safety discussions

Attendance for this course is limited to 7-10 students; each student will have their own equipment package to work with. This consists of 1 x 442 stereo 4 channel mixer, 1 x 744T recorder, 1 x 418 stereo microphone, 2 x Lectrosonic radio mic kits, 1 x digital slate, headphones, cables etc. There will be at least 2 cameras on hand and a couple of ‘actors’ to assist with exercises.

This workshop leans toward a documentary style course, and safety is our number one priority, so it is important that each student come to ‘work’ wearing work boots (no sneakers), cargo pants or work pants a long sleeve collared shirt (prepare to get it dirty), with a floppy wide brim fishing style hat. This is an OH&S requirement.

COST: $3,500.00 per workshop - includes all equipment. Must have at least 7 students for course to take place. Does not include food & bev other than BBQ.
